All the Boys Love Mandy Lane

all the boys love mandy lane

Whoo boy, you guys were right about All The Boys Love Mandy Lane!  I LOVED this movie!  So fun and such a trip.  I think I’m probably the last one out of everybody to see this one but maybe someone out there still hasn’t seen it and if not, then you definitely need to, got it?  😉

Meet Mandy Lane. Ain't she just gorgeous??

Meet Mandy Lane. Ain’t she just gorgeous??

It’s a pretty simple concept.  Mandy Lane gets particularly hot over a summer in high school and all the boys are falling all over her.  Mandy however is quiet and shy and bff’s with a guy who’s a bit of an outsider and gets to be even more of an outsider when he pulls a prank at a pool party that leaves a boy dead.  (He has the boy jump off a roof, even though the guy is wayyyy too drunk, to impress Mandy Lane).  Fast forward a bit in time and Mandy is still quiet and shy but no longer friends with Outcast Boy.  She’s now friends with the popular crowd.  She and a couple of other girls are invited to a weekend at Stoner Dude’s ranch and Mandy talks her aunt into letting her go.  Once they get there it’s all drugs, sex, and rock’n’roll until people start dying one by one.  But who’s killing them off?  And why?

Run, Mandy, Run!

Run, Mandy, Run!

For a slasher film, this one is aces.  Amber Heard is gorgeous and perfect as Mandy Lane and every one plays their part here well.  The cinematography is aces too.  Really, I have no complaints.  This is like a perfect slasher flick.  It’s fun, it’s enjoyable, it’s a heck of a thrill ride.  I didn’t see the ending coming till the very last second and was surprised when it came.  It’s rare these days that a movie can do that.  So check it out.  I promise you won’t regret it!

  1. I don’t know if you read my review for this film, Misty. If you did, then you know that I liked it, but at the same time I had my doubts about the ending. Aside from that, an enjoyable film and a top-notch review from you, my friend.

  2. By the way, the cinematographer was inspired by the likes of Terrence Malick and Tobe Hooper.

  3. Why did they change her name to Mandy for your biopic? Legal reasons?

  4. Nice work Cinema Schminema!

    *gropes

I liked this thing but I remember being a little disappointed with after we waited SEVEN years for it to finally come out. Oh well – I should just get over it.

  5. I will eventually get around to watching this but it hasn’t really interested me. She is gorgeous though 😀

  6. I managed to see this film the other year, and all in all I thought it was pretty boring. There seems to be some love for it though, especially in the States. Good review though.

    • Maybe it is just in the States. I know I read a ton of reviews beforehand that all loved it and didn’t hear a single bad word about it. Sorry you thought it was boring! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

  7. Hmm, I must b reading the wrong reviews, because I thought this was universally hated, even within the Horror community. I was excited to see it, but thought it was one of the most shock-free, uninspired disasters I’ve ever seen. I do think Amber is a great actress though.

    • That’s so weird because until today I hadn’t heard a single bad word about it. Sorry to hear it disappointed you though! Amber was definitely great in it. Not sure I’ve seen her in much else so it was nice to see what all the fuss about her is.

  8. Ok, now I”M the only one who hasn’t seen this – oh, me and Tim. I know if Eric likes it there must be boobs.

  9. Nice review!

I’ve been a fan of this for a while – pretty under-rated and always fun! You’re right too, Amber Heard is great in the lead role. A solid 2000s slasher!

    Adam.

  10. Good review. It definitely seemed like it wanted to be “different” from all those other teen-slasher flicks out there, but instead, just came-off like another one of them. Just with far more stupid decisions and blood.

  11. Victor De Leon

Jeez, I am so late to the party but I have yet to watch this movie. It’s in my Netflix list, so I hope to get to it soon. Nice write up, like always, sista!

  12. Johnny Depp is one lucky dude. Glad that you loved it so much, and this was a well written review. While I think it falls short of perfect, it certainly does bring back memories of the greatest slashers and is quite good.

  13. Love this movie! Bought a foreign copy of it several years ago since it wasn’t released on DVD/Blu-Ray at the time. I feel like it was advertised as being mainstream but it was actually a pretty damn thoughtful film. Like an art-house slasher.

Oh, and how the hell is Amber Heard not an A-Lister in Hollywood right now?

She has movie star written all over her. Then again, despite that she’s marrying Johnny Depp, maybe the whole movie star lifestyle isn’t really her thing.

    • I’d never heard of it till everybody started blogging about it last year so I don’t know how it was advertised but I can see where if it was advertised as mainstream, it went wrong. Yes, it’s slasher but I agree it’s deeper than that.

I can’t speak on Amber Heard because I think this is the only thing I’ve ever seen her in but I thought she was really good here. I’d have to see more of her work to really pass judgement on whether she’s A-list or not. But yeah, maybe that’s not her scene.

  14. Hmmm…sounds interesting. I may have to check it out. 🙂

And.........Action!
