I am Nancy
I have to admit to being vaguely disappointed in I am Nancy mostly because it wasn’t anything at all like I was expecting and I didn’t really receive any insight into Heather Langenkamp (other than she’s either great at making fun of herself or she’s a seriously whiny and maudlin person, it’s so hard to tell at times but this whole thing is supposed to be “tongue in cheek” so I’m leaning toward the making fun of herself). This is the documentary that Heather made that focuses on her experience playing Wes Craven’s legendary teen heroine, Nancy.
IS IT FUN?
Oh hell, yes. There are references from pop culture to crazed fans at conventions who at times do some strange things to Heather wondering if anyone would ever get a Nancy tattoo instead of a Freddy one….it’s super fun. There’s also a SONG – a theme song called “I am Nancy” – that alone is worth it!
IS IT INSIGHTFUL?
Not really. I mean you learn a lot of cool random facts (Wes Craven’s daughter chose Johnny Depp and Nancy was created based off something she once said). And I discovered that Robert Englund is apparently the nicest guy on the face of the planet, seriously, dude seems hella kickawesome! There’s also an interview with Wes Craven (extended interviews with Craven and Englund can be found in the special features). But overall, I didn’t learn anything really about Heather which is what I went into this wanting to know (since she made the thing and all). If you’re not a hardcore fan, there’s really nothing here for you.

Sounds LAME
It wasn’t lame…it was just disappointing…I enjoyed seeing the fans and the Robert Englund bits the most.
You know what else is lame? Two people fund their way to my place using this search term: “closets 2010″…
those poor people….
😦 Oh that is sad making for them….
Thanks for the heads up, doll!
Absolutely, darlin’!
I love it when you talk southern!
*giggles* Well, I am pretty tired so my Southern is showing. 😉 That’s bout the only time it comes out.
DO you like sweet tea? And have you ever eaten at a BoJangle’s?
I actually do not like sweet tea but I have eaten at Bojangle’s. I make some killer biscuits!
I love BoJangle’s and miss it dearly. And I miss sweet tea!
I would love to eat your biscuits. That sounds….pervy. But yeah, I would eat your food biscuits.
Hahhahaa, that was the most awesome hilarious comment ever!! It’s my mom’s recipe so it’s old school – she is a great cook and luckily passed it down to me.
I miss Mexican food in the south – Mexican food in New Jersey is wayyyy different. But the pizza is definitely better here!
I’m not big on Mexican food, but yeah, southern food isn’t the same up north. However, the pizza — phenomenal!
Oh yeah, people up here think it’s okay to eat biscuits from a can…No…
LOL hell no. Gotta use flour and water!
Oh, no water, nope not in my biscuits. Buttermilk, darlin’. 😉
Oh look at you honey!
I’ll wait for “I am Glen” instead.
Ha!
This was a good review. What you described about it not revealing much about her reminded me of Madonna’s documentary ‘Truth or Dare’, which I felt was superficial and didn’t show us much about her either except what she wanted us to see.
From the trailer I watched Heather looks different than when she was in the ‘Nightmar on Elm Stree’ movie although I’d say she is still looking attractive.
From the other comments I read it sounds like you are from the south. Where in the south? I traveled there this summer. I love the red soil and consider it a very scenic area.
I haven’t seen Truth or Dare but from the way you described it yes, it sounds very similar.
She’s definitely still attractive. 🙂 And she’s very cute in her personality as well except for when it feels like she’s coming off whiny (again, I think she is mocking herself but still).
I’m from Alabama originally. 🙂 And yes, it’s so scenic! What parts have you travelled?
Well, I went to the Biltmore Mansion in North Carolina, which is gorgeous and the site where the movie ‘Being There’ was filmed, which is a great flick. I then went through South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and up through Alabama. I saw Mobile and loved the views of the Gulf. I then went through Montgomery and toured the capital. I liked the smooth white dome of your capital building. I also toured the original Confederate White House, which was cool.
Nice!! I haven’t even been to all of those places, just through Montgomery a couple of times. 🙂
So it’s another one of those sort-of-making-of-but-not-quite documentaries? Even if I do not like the series, I’m still interested in how it all came together. Guess I’ll have to look somewhere else, then?
It’s not a making of documentary it’s Heather looking at what Nancy means to people and kind of bemoaning the fact that Freddy is way more popular than Nancy ever was. If you want a good making of documentary go with “Never Sleep Again” – it’s 4 hours long but it is soooo excellent and covers the majority of the series. 🙂
I was wondering about this one. I might have to check it out since she has always been my favorite scream queen. Nice review.
If she’s your favorite scream queen, definitely give it a go. Just don’t expect to learn too much about her. 🙂
